public history * oral history * digital humanities

humanities truck

The Humanities Truck is a fully customized delivery truck that travels throughout Washington, D.C. to collect, exhibit, preserve, and expand dialogue around the humanities. The project is directed by American University Professor Dan Kerr and funded by the Henry Luce and Mellon Foundations.

website design

Julie built the site with WordPress. It uses the Astra Pro theme, along with Smart Slider and Elementor.

oral history transcription

Otter.ai was used to transcribe video and audio oral history interviews. Exported text was time stamped and used to create video subtitles and Word transcriptions.

community archive

Julie wrote Perl scripts and XML to batch process images and oral history interviews for import into the Islandora community archive.

oral history indexing

Julie transcribed oral history interviews with time stamps and converted documents to VTT files. Viewers are able to jump to any part of the interviews. Keywords and general metadata were added for accessibility.

academic collaboration

Julie collaborated with public history faculty & graduate students, other truck staff, and Humanties Truck Fellows.

training & documentation

Julie thoroughly documented all web processessing, oral history transcription, and indexing procedures.
